King
- This is the piece that you must protect the most. Having it captured by the enemy means the game is over with you at the losing end. Its movement is limited to one square at a time in any direction.
Queen
- This piece can move freely regardless of the number of squares and the direction. It can move horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.
Rooks
- Also called as “tower”, its movement is also not limited in terms of the number of squares. The limit is on the direction – only horizontal or vertical.
Bishop
- This can move diagonally regardless of the number of squares.
Knights
- This chess piece is also known as “horse”. It can move in an “L” shape on the board at any direction.
Pawn
- If it is the first time for the pawn to be moved, the piece can take two (2) squares vertically. If not, only one square per movement is allowed and only vertical movements are allowed.
