Development In VR Tech Helps Special-Needs Students By Providing New Way To Learn
VR HELPS SPECIAL-NEEDS STUDENTS – The advent of virtual reality (VR) paved the way for exciting experiences for the masses.
Now, the use of this technology is being studied to potentially help special-needs students get ready for the real world. According to an article from Ed Tech Magazine, VR was being used to help those with autism practice real-life situations.
Individuals with autism are one of the most talented people in the world. However, most of the time, they lack the social skills required to face the challenges of the real.
That’s why the people at Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) began using VR technology to aid their special needs kids. As per the article, this was done by giving the students real-life simulations through VR.
With this, students are now able to repeat behaviors multiple times so they could use it in the real world. But, most importantly, this provides a safe environment for the students to learn at their own pace.
Meanwhile, the CCIU also integrated tablets and phones to place their students at real-life situations. Moreover, in one of their modules, students learn to respond to simple gestures such as waving hello.
Additionally, others learn to respond to social scenarios like walking the school hallway, crossing the street safely, and small-talk. Furthermore, the CCIU had also purchased a 3360-degree camera to create its own virtual tours.

The fact that this technology is available to us is just phenomenal in terms of what we can start doing for our students.
