Since the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), church leaders were forced to do masses online to avoid further contagion. The virus from China has infected 1.3 million people worldwide.

COVID-19 may have emptied churches but the Roman Catholics in the Philippines are still observing Holy Week rites through their tv screens, cellphones or computers. Devotees still get to be part of the vigils, masses, processions, novenas and other ceremonies.
