Italy Reports 1 Death Per 4 Minutes From COVID-19

COVID-19 IN ITALY – Italy has become the hardest-hit country by the new coronavirus.

Recently, health authorities reported over 368 deaths within 24 hours. This averaged to about 1 death every four minutes. As such, the fatalities confirmed in the country rose to 1,809.

Additionally, the number of infected increased as well with over 3,509 new cases within the same time span. Meanwhile, the region of Milan in Lombardy remained the most affected with 1,218 deaths and 13,272 cases.

According to an article from NSC Total, the containment protocols were imposed in Milan a week ago. Following this, they were extended in all of Italy.

In addition, the Prime Minister had also imposed a lockdown on all non-essential businesses. Currently, only essentials such as groceries and pharmacy stores are open.

However, banking, insurance, postal services, and transport are still guaranteed. The Prime Minister stated that the measures are marked by a difficult balance in order to keep the economy somewhat afloat.

With the continued rise in numbers, officials in Lombardy expressed concerns regarding their hospital’s ability to deal with the pandemic.

Italy remains to be the nation with the second-highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the world following China. Based on Worldometers, the country has now recorded a total of- 24,747 infected cases and 1,809 death cases.
