Curfew Violators In Parañaque City Seated Near Empty Coffins

CURFEW VIOLATORS – The sanction for curfew violators on Parañaque City looked like a funeral as they were seated by officials near empty coffins.

According to ABS-CBN, the empty coffins have a sign that says “Stay at home or stay inside”, and a nearly blank picture frame with “Insert picture here”.

The penalty or “funeral wake” would take about an hour before they were allowed to head home.

Noel Japlos, a barangay official, said that this is a visual warning that they might get infected by coronavirus disease 2019 if they will not observe quarantine.

“Nakakalungkot na hindi nila naiisip ang importansya nito. Maiisip lang nila ‘yon pag naramdaman nila na ang mahal nila sa buhay ay namatay,”

Japlos cited that there are two fatalities from San Isidro in the city, and eight more confirmed cases. Despite this, there are residents caught outside their residences, among them were one who was caught three times.

As per the report, there are about 155 confirmed cases in Parañaque city, among them were 14 fatalities and 6 recoveries.

“Kailangan maging reminder natin na iyong laban na to ay covid 19 hindi kapwa Pilipino. Kailangan may disiplina,”

“Kung ‘di natin susundan ang sinasabi ng mga dalubhasa na dapat laging nasa bahay lang, ‘di tayo matatapos sa labang ito.”

Ever since the enhanced community quarantine in the capital began, there are photos circulating online that the residents in San Isidro were basking under the sun.

The coffins were used as a warning in other areas in the Philippines, among those were used in checkpoints in Pampanga while in Santo Tomas, Davao Del Norte, violators were tasked to guard the coffins.
