Filipina Chess Great Arianne Caoili Dies After Car Crash
ARIANNE CAOILI – Fil-Aussie chess great Arianne Caoili tragically died after a road accident in Yerevan, Armenia.
Chess player Arianne Caoili was born in Manila, Philippines. She began playing chess at 6 years old. In 2004, she transferred chess federations.
She represented Austalia in the Women’s Chess Olympiad in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. She played for the Philippines in 1998 and 2000.
On September 30, 2017, Arianne Caoili married Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian. She worked and lived in Armenia since 2013.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, Arianne Caoili died on Monday, March 30, 2020, after being involved in a car accident in Yerevan. She was 33.
According to the report, the Filipina chess player was in a car accident last March 15. Her SUV “crashed into a supporting column under the bridge near the intersection of Sebastia Street and Isakov Avenue.”
Arianne reportedly underwent several surgeries before passing away. Her husband confirmed the tragic news on his Twitter account.
“I have no words to express the grievance over my wife Arianne’s death. She was intelligent, hard working and joyous person that lived a beautiful life,” he wrote.
