Construction Worker Walked for Five Days to Bicol Amid Lockdown
A pitiful construction worker who walked for five days from Alabang, Muntinlupa to Bicol after escaping before Luzon-wide lockdown imposed.
Since coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) struck the Philippines, local government units immediately imposed strict safety precautionary measures as President Rodrigo Duterte place Luzon under ‘enhanced community quarantine’ and declared ‘state of calamity’ for 6 months.
Meanwhile, Marlon Dalipe, walked from Alabang in Muntinlupa City to Bicol in Zone 3 Del Gallego, Camarines Sur for five days after escaping the implemented community quarantine in Metro Manila.
He was one of many citizens who went out of Metro Manila when President Rodrigo Duterte first placed the entire City to an enhanced quarantine community that began at midnight March 15.
According to the post of a concerned netizen named Zenia Banagan who encounter get to have conversation with him, he shared that Marlon was working as a construction worker in Parañaque City when the community quarantine was declared. He said he was afraid of getting stuck in Metro Manila so he decided to return home to Bicol with P500 in his wallet.
March 15, midnight, Marlon decided to walk because there’s no available bus route to Bicol when he arrived at Alabang terminal. On his first day, he arrived in Batangas where he was accompanied by other travelers who also wanted to go home. Some are from Quezon, Masbate and some are going to Mindanao.
The second day of Marlon’s journey became even more difficult as the Metro Manila was raised to enhanced community quarantine. There were already checkpoints in every town, while they were in Quezon province then.
After five days Marlon reached the town of Tagkawayan, the border of Quezon and Camarines Sur, where he met Zenia Banagan who fed him. Zenia took social media to share Marlon’s pitiful experience amid lockdown.
