Balikbayan PUI Dies Before Her Result for Coronavirus Test Was Released

BALIKBAYAN PUI – A patient under investigation in Dagupan, Pangasinan died before the release of her coronavirus test result.

The Philippines is now facing a crisis – the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus or COVID-19. Currently, there is a total of 217 confirmed cases of the said disease in the country.

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of eight (8) recoveries and seventeen (17) deaths due to coronavirus. The authorities are now taking a double time to contain the spread of the disease.

For the confirmation on the status of a patient, a swab test must be taken and sent for checking. The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) is the authorized body in PH to do the checking.

The result may be out in two (2) to three (3) days. However, in Dagupan, Pangasinan, a balikbayan PUI died prior to the release of the result of her coronavirus test.

Based on a report on Rappler, the 68-year-old balikbayan is from the United States. She’s from the town of Rosales in the Philippines and was initially checked in a private hospital in Urdaneta.

The patient exhibit cough, tightness of chest, and fever which are symptoms of the COVID-19. According to the report, from the private hospital in Urdaneta, she was transferred to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan.

However, a day after she was transferred to the Medical Center in Dagupan and prior to the release of her coronavirus test result, the balikbayan PUI died. Her remains were reportedly cremated immediately upon the request of her family.
