DOH Clarifies – The Department of Health released a clarification on Sunday night that 2 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered.
On March 15, Sunday, DOH Secretary Francisco Duque said during a radio interview that 5 patients of 2019 novel coronavirus have recovered. “Matagal talaga ang recovery period. Sa mild to moderate cases of COVID-19 infection, (recovery) is anywhere from 2-3 weeks. Yung critical aabutin lampas ng 1 buwan, 3-6 weeks. So hindi madali,” Duque said.
However, later that day, the health department issued a clarification statement, based on the report from Inquirer.
In a statement, the DOH stated: “The Department of Health clarifies that, to date, there have been a total of two recovered cases of COVID-19 (PH1 and PH3).” Meanwhile, 5 is under home quarantine.
“On the other hand, five confirmed COVID-19 cases with mild symptoms are under home quarantine based on the existing decision tool for the diagnosis and management of COVID-19,” said in the statement released by DOH.
Based on the report, as of Sunday night, the health department has reported that there are 140 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines and 12 deaths.
In an earlier report, the health department advised people who exhibited symptoms to undergo home quarantine. DOH Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an interview last Sunday that six of the current 140 people infected with COVID-19 in the country were allowed to return home. However, they shall observe isolation and they will be monitored strictly by health officials in their respective residences.
People with mild symptoms are allowed to practice home quarantine and isolation, the Assistant Secretary said.
