5 coronavirus patients have recovered – DOH
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque reported that 5 coronavirus patients in the Philippines have recovered.
The health chief announced this on Sunday, March 15 in a radio interview on DZMM. On Saturday, the country has recorded 111 cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), including 8 fatalities, based on the report from ABS-CBN.
Based on an earlier report, a COVID-19 patient who was an employee in the House of Representatives passed away. House secretary-general, Jose Luis Montale said that the employee worked at the chamber’s printing service department.
Following that sad news, DOH announced that 5 COVID-19 patients have recovered. The Health Secretary also said that they are still awaiting the test results of 72 other individuals, while 638 have tested negative for the virus.
“Matagal talaga ang recovery period. Sa mild to moderate cases of COVID-19 infection, (recovery) is anywhere from 2-3 weeks. Yung critical aabutin lampas ng 1 buwan, 3-6 weeks. So hindi madali,” Duque said during the radio interview.
Based on the report, among the 5 patients were the two Chinese tourists tagged as Case Nos. 1 and 3 and they already traveled back to China. “Pagka gumawa tayo ng marami pang testing, baka may positive na marami dyan, so liliit yung case mortality rate…’yan ‘yung number of deaths over number of infection,” Duque added.
South Korea is donating 500 COVID-19 test kits to the Philippines and health authorities are waiting for this to arrive in the country. Furthermore, China has pledged 10,000 test kits.
Meanwhile, the health chief clarified the misinformation shared online stating that 2 COVID-19 patients have died at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in Manila, based on the report. Duque said, “Fake news yan eh. Fake news po yan. Hindi naman totoo.”
