According to GMA News, the special formula will determine the class standing of their students while the capital is under “community quarantine” due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Education Undersecretary Alain Pascua said in a press conference that the department might issue a memorandum or an order for school officials in the capital to use the “transmutation formula.”

“Iko-compute ‘yung mga grado ng mga bata magmula noong first, second, at saka third quarters at ‘yung remaining standing nila?—less at wala don ‘yung fourth quarter?—and then we’ll be having their class standing,”

“Kung hindi naman sila magiging satisfied sa kanilang magiging grado ay magkakaroon din ng online examination,”

Pascua added that since many teachers and students in Metro Manila have access to cellphones and Wi-Fi, the department might introduce its online learning platform.

Via this platform, Metro Manila students are able to take the lessons for the last two weeks of the school year and have their online examinations as well.

As per the report, due to the COVID-198 threat, class suspensions have been extended to April 12, 2020 following the Code Red Sub-Level 2 hoisted at the nation.

Pascua added that students outside the areas with class suspensions will be taking their 4th quarter examinations on a staggered basis next week.

“Ibig sabihin ang mga bata ay pupunta lang sa mga eskwelahan next week para lang mag-take ng examination pero staggered basis, kung kailan lang sila magte-take ng exam dun lang sila papasok,”

He added that teachers of schools within places covered by the class suspension due to COVID-19 are not required to report for work at the schools unless required by the division superintendent.
