Qatar Bars Travelers From Philippines & 13 Other Countries Following New COVID-19 Cases

QATAR BARS TRAVELERS FROM PHILIPPINES – The global spread of COVID-19 had finally led to the Philippines having local transmissions.

Previously, two Filipinos were tested positive for the new coronavirus. One had a travel history to Japan, while the other did not. Following this, the wife of one of the patients also contracted the virus.

This led Qatar to temporarily ban travels from 14 countries, including the Philippines. According to a report from ABS-CBN, the temporary ban would start on March 9 as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.

The list of countries banned include:

  • Egypt
  • India
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Bangladesh
  • Nepal
  • Pakistan
  • Philippines
  • South Korea
  • Sri Lanka
  • Syria
  • Thailand

As per the report, Qatar Airways had already suspended flights in and out of Italy. Additionally, Qatar had reported 3 more cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the nationwide total to 15.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., the number of cases had already surpassed 500. Along with this, two fatalities were also recorded by health authorities.

The virus had hit about 30 US states. In lieu of this, Oregon declared a state of emergency. Additionally, 60 million people in California and New York were placed under crisis measures.

Moreover, the Philippines’ President Rodrigo Duterte declared a State of Emergency on Monday due to COVID-19. This decision came after “considering all critical factors with the aim of safeguarding the health of the Filipino public”.

However, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo emphasized that the government has prepared for such an event.
