ACU Warns About Posting And Sharing Unconfirmed COVID-19 News
COVID-19 – The Central Visayas regional Anti Cybercrime Unit (ACU) reminded the public against sharing and posting unconfirmed COVID-19 news.

This announcement came after a post on Facebook went viral for claiming that there are hotels that are unsafe to occupy due to the 26 tourists from Daegu City, South Korea checking in the alleged hotels.
According to Inquirer’s Cebu Daily News , Police Colonel Marlo Castillo, head of the Regional Anti Cybercrime Unit in Central Visayas (RACU-7), said that they are currently probing the issue.
Castillo added that these unverified posts may cause panic among the public, adding that Cebu is still safe.
Staff from the unit are currently monitoring reports related to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 and those who are caught to be the source of fake news will face charges and possibly serve jail time.
“Any material or evidence na makuha sa kanila, we will not hesitate to file cases against them,”
As per the report, the unit earlier filed charges against Josephil Brian Consuelo of Lahug, Cebu City. Consuelo is an optometrist based in Mandaue City.
Consuelo was said to be the source of a false information about the virus that involved in a hospital in Cebu.
