March 2, 7 & 31, 2020 Are Special Holidays Not “National Holidays”, PhilNews Says

The online website PhilNews.ph says March 2, 7, and 31, 2020 are special non-working days and not “National Holidays”.

Last Friday (February 28, 2020), the Philippine Trending News (PhilNews) published an article entitled “#WalangPasok: March 2, 7, & 31, 2020 Declared as Special Non-Working Holidays“.

The article reported that Malacañang Palace declared March 2, 7, and 31, 2020 as special non-working days in three different areas including La Union, Basilan, and Panabo City, Davao del Norte due to various events.

The report clearly specified that the dates in the selected areas are special non-working days and not ‘National Holidays’. The areas were not specified in the title due to the limit set by WordPress.

However, PhilNews made sure that all necessary information and details regarding the report including the Proclamation No’s, list of dates, and areas covered by the declaration can be read in the content.

Rappler.com and Kami.com.ph tagged the article’s headline as “FALSE HEADLINE” claiming that the title is “misleading”. However, reading the full article could give the readers the full details and information.

In addition, Philnews.ph did not mention the dates as national holidays but as special non-working days in selected areas contradicting the claims of those websites that also do the same way of headlining.
