WALANG PASOK – The local government unit of Bayawan, Negros Oriental declared class suspensions to celebrate Tawo-Tawo Festival.

On Tuesday (February 18, 2020), the classes and government work in the City of Bayawan, Province of Negros Oriental has been suspended in celebration of the annual Tawo-Tawo Festival.

The Proclamation No. 901 declares February 18, 2020, as a special non-working holiday in the province to give people of Bayawan the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasions with appropriate ceremonies.

Class Suspensions

President Rodrigo Duterte authorized Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea to sign the proclamation declaring the special holiday in Bayawan, Negros Oriental.

Tawo-Tawo is a Visayan term for a scarecrow, which is placed in fields of rice, corn and other crops to drive away birds feasting upon the harvest. The scarecrow saves the day and prevents famine from the human population.

The festival gathers hundreds of people from different cities, municipalities, and provinces.
