Palace Declares Class Suspensions for Monday (February 17)

WALANG PASOK – The local government unit of Taytay, Rizal has declared class suspensions to celebrate “Araw ng Pasasalamat” (HAMAKA Festival).

On Monday (February 17, 2020), class and government work in the municipality of Taytay, province of Rizal has been suspended due to HAMAKA Festival or also known as “Araw ng Pasasalamat”.

The Proclamation No. 903 declares February 17, 2020, as a special non-working holiday in the province to give people the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasions with appropriate ceremonies.

Class Suspensions

Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea signed the proclamation declared the special holiday in Taytay, Rizal with the authority bestowed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Hamaka means HAMba (woodworks), MAkina (sewing machine), and KAsuotan (garments) symbolizing that Taytay as the Garments Capital of the Philippines. The festival started on February 22, 1998, after the residents celebrate for an abundant harvest.

It is also an opportunity for Taytayeños to show the result of their hardwork in woodworks and garments industry. The festival also includes Hamaka extra challenge, street dancing, fashion festival, adobo festival, handog ng Dep-Ed sa Hamaka, koronasyon ng Ginoo and Mutya ng Hamaka.
