According to GMA News, the agency explained that this is due to the projected shortage of power supply in the next few months.

The agency’s Administrator Edgardo Masongsong said that during the season, one-our power interruptions may occur due to the high demand and low supply.

The crisis he mentioned is the COVID-19 outbreak (coronavirus disease 2019) in which the Department of Health (DOH) said, based on their data, that there are currently 487 persons under investigation in the country as of Saturday.

Masongsong said that the cancellation of events due to the outbreak could lessen the demand for electricity during the summer season.

As per the report, this came after the DOE (Department of Energy) estimated that red alerts may be issued during April 18 to 21 and May 20 to 22.

“Ito ‘yung pinaghahandaan namin, dahil no less than DOE released this advisory.
