Laguna Hit by Earthquake with 3.5 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 3.5 magnitude quake in Laguna, February 17, 2020.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.

Recently, a quake has hit a part of Laguna. At 04:21 am, February 17, 2020, San Pablo City was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5.

EARTHQUAKE

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Laguna was located at 14.02°North, 121.27°East – 008 km South 44° West of San Pablo City. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 004 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in a bulletin that there are no expected damages caused by the quake. There are no expected aftershocks as well. The following intensity was felt:

  • Intensity IV: San Pablo City and Malvar, Batangas.
