Opening of Classes Schedule for SY 2020-2021 Announced by DepEd

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced the opening of classes schedule in public schools for the school year 2020-2021.

Education Undersecretary and Spokesperson Annalyn Sevilla confirmed that the proposed opening of classes for kinder, elementary, junior high school, and senior high school will start on June 1, 2020 (Monday).

However, Sevilla clarified that the school calendar for the upcoming school year has not yet been released containing the approved schedule of the class opening. The proposed start of classes will be imposed on public schools.

The announcement is based on Republic Act No. 7977 or “An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) days to not more than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days.”

The Republic Act No. 7977 orders the schools to start on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August. The move in line with the ‘Oplan Balik Eskwela’ (OBE) for this school year.

“The OBE is part of the Department’s efforts to ensure that learners are already properly enrolled and able to attend school by the first day of classes,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said.
