PH ends Visiting Forces Agreement with U.S., DFA Sec signs VFA termination notice.
VFA TERMINATION NOTICE – DFA Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. signed Visiting Forces Agreement notice of terminations and sent it to United States.
“The Executive Secretary sent the message to Secretary Teddyboy Locsin and the latter signed the notice of termination as sent to the US government today,” says Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo informing the public that the country has formally ended Visiting Forces Agreement with the United States. This announcement was made on Tuesday, February 11.
Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. signed the notice of termination and sent it back to the US government. In a Tweet, Locsin shared that the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy has already received the termination. He added, “As a diplomatic courtesy there will be no further factual announcements following this self-explanatory development.”
Meanwhile, in the senate the previous week, Locsin urges “vigorous review” of the VFA as the country will be set to lose billions in aids and among other benefits if the termination is pushed through. He says that this move will be risky for the Philippines.
President Duterte has this plan in mind when the US canceled the visa of Senator Ronald Dela Rosa.
