Suspected nCoV Cases Include 26-Year-Old Mother & Baby Quarantine in Visayas

MOTHER & BABY QUARANTINE – A 26-year-old woman and her baby are under quarantine in Visayas for suspected coronavirus (nCoV) cases.

The Philippines is one of the countries that are closely monitoring the 2019 novel coronavirus. There are three (3) confirmed cases in the country and it is also where the first nCoV death case outside China was recorded.

Also called as nCoV, the novel coronavirus was first recorded in Wuhan City in China. The disease has infected around 8,000 people in the epicenter and left at least 425 people dead.

Several countries including the United States, France, Nepal, India, Hong Kong, and Japan also got confirmed cases of nCoV. Most of these patients have visited Wuhan City.

With regards to the count of the suspected nCoV cases in the Philippines, there are currently 133 people under monitoring. According to the Department of Health (DOH), 16 of these people have already been discharged but are still monitored.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the people under monitoring includes a 26-year-old mother and her baby in Eastern Visayas. They are currently quarantined and exhibit coughing.

According to the report, the mother and her seven (7) months old child have a travel history to Macau together with her sister-in-law. The sister-in-law of the 26-year-old woman is also quarantined in a government hospital in Tacloban.

The symptoms of nCoV are similar to flu. The patient may experience fever, cough, and shortness of breath. For confirmation, a swab test must be taken and sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for checking.

As of this writing, there are still no further information about the suspected nCoV cases. More updates may be posted soon.
