Suspect Runs Amok In La Libertad, 2 In Same Family Slain, 5 Injured
LA LIBERTAD – Two boys were slain while five more family members were injured when a man ran amok and stabbed them in La Libertad, Negros Oriental
According to Inquirer’s Cebu Daily News, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 2, 2020 in Barangay Pacuan of the said town.
Director of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) Police Colonel Julian Entoma identified the fatalities as siblings Jillian Jeb Sur, aged 8, and King James Sur, aged 2 years.
The wounded were identified as sisters Jenery Elarcosa, aged 14, Geraldine Elarcosa, aged 12, and Jane Elarcosa, as well as their grandparents Cesar Potestas, aged 65, and Elsa Potestas, aged 60.
The suspect, identified as Joan Isidro with the alias Badian, was arrested by the responding soldiers from the army detachment of the 94th Mandirigma Battalion under the command of Staff Sergeant Temie Redondo..
Entoma said that Isidro, a resident of the same barangay, Isidro barged into the house of the victims at around 6 AM on Sunday and shouted that he was going to kill the entire family. Equipped with a knife, he began stabbing the members of the family.
“Diretso ra ni sulod sa panimalay sa biktima naghuramentado. Nasuko ra daw ni sa pamilya. Away ra ni sa ilang pamilya. Kalit ra man miingon nga pamatyon tamong tanan ug misaka ss balay,”
(He barged into the house of the family and went berserk. He was angry with the family. It was allegedly a family feud. He came and yelled ‘I will kill all of you’ before he went inside the house)
As per the report, Entoma added that the grandfather was wounded but was able to run and cried for help. The siblings, who are said to be sleeping, were stabbed several times.
“Gidunggab tong apohan maayo kay nakadagan. Looy kadtong bata nga nabilin mao tuy iyang gipangluba ang duha ka bata,”
(The grandfather was stabbed and it was fortunate that he was able to run. But the hapless children were repeatedly stabbed)
Reports from the local police office states that the parents of the dead siblings were away as they are both working in Cebu City.
