Death Toll In China Rises To 258 With More Than 11,000 Infected
CHINA DEATH TOLL – The rampant coronavirus epidemic that has plagued China has infected more than 11,000 people and killed 259.
The new coronavirus that was first discovered in Wuhan had been responsible for 45 new fatalities. Meanwhile, the number of new cases of infection in Hubei increased by 1,347.
According to a report from Aljazeera, most of the fatalities came from Hubei province. In addition, another 102,000 people are under medical observation with possible symptoms of the virus.
Along with this, new cases of the Wuhan coronavirus have been confirmed abroad. Currently, there are more than 20 countries affected including the Philippines, Spain, and the UK.
As per the report, Spain’s National Centre for Microbiology confirmed their first case of the deadly virus. The patient was diagnosed on the remote island of La Gomera in the Canaries.
The patient was part of a group of five people under observation on the island. They were isolated after discovering they had come into contact with a German man diagnosed with the Wuhan virus.
Because of the rampant spread of the virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared it a “Global Emergency”. With this, international efforts and more funds to fight the virus would be available.
Meanwhile, the Pasteur Institute from France said it had created a task force aimed to develop a vaccine against the coronavirus by 2021.
