Metro Manila Second Most Traffic-Congested City, Traffic Index Says

METRO MANILA – Metro Manila, the capital of the Philippines is the second most traffic-congested city in the world based on a traffic index.

According to ABS-CBN News, the 2019 Traffic Index from TomTom, a Netherlands-based global data provider, states that the Philippine capital is second to the city of Bengaluru in India.

Both Bengaluru and Manila is at 71%, which was followed by Bogota in Colombia (68%), Mumbai and Pune in India (65% and 59%, respectively).

The index shows that most motorists in the city spent an average of 71% extra travel time stuck in traffic last year.

A Manila commuter or motorist spent an additional 257 hours in traffic while driving peak hours. The traffic index also said that during that time spent, they could have planted 258 trees or watched 227 episodes of Game of Thrones.

As per the report, the index suggested that motorists and commuters to avoid the 6 PM rush hour during Fridays where worst of traffic jams occur.

“Traveling after 7 PM on Friday could save you up to 5 hours per year (for a 30-minute commute),”

The least traffic on the capital was on April 19 due to the observance of Holy week’s Good Friday while it was at its highes on Auguat 19 at about 107%.
