Wuhan Virus Strikes Fears Among PH Residents With Face Masks In Iloilo Running Out
FACE MASKS IN ILOILO – Amidst fears of the deadly Wuhan Coronavirus spreading in the Philippines, residents have stocked up on face masks.
According to a report from ABS-CBN, Iloilo City now had dwindling supplies of face masks. Several pharmacies have already exhausted their supplies in fear of the Wuhan coronavirus.
In addition, even the staff of the pharmacies have started wearing face masks themselves. Some of the pharmacies’ management have left two boxes for the staff.
As per the article, there was one pharmacy where over 200 boxes of face masks were sold in less than a day. This led to pharmacies ordering fresh supplies of face masks.
However, most were not sure when it would arrive and it would depend on the supplier from Manila.
Meanwhile, other countries have begun evacuating their citizens from Wuhan China and banning tourists from the outbreak stricken country.
However, in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte said that a travel ban on China would be “unfair”.
The deadly new strain of Coronavirus was believed to have started in the central city of Wuhan. Some suggest that the virus came from wildlife such as bats and civet cats.
Following the outbreak, 169 people have already confirmed to be killed. Along with this, over 1000 more cases have been confirmed in China.
But, some experts suggest that this number is being downplayed by the government. According to one epidemiologist from Harvard, that new virus could be deadlier than the Spanish Influenza.
As of yesterday, the number of infected from the new Wuhan Virus had surpassed that of SARS in just a matter of months since it was detected.
