EARTHQUAKE – A part of Turkey was recently hit by a 6.8 magnitude quake and at least 18 people were left dead.

The quake is one of the natural incidents that can hardly be predicted. Also, it is one of those that can cause the most serious damages – it can even lead to the loss of lives.

Everyday, quake occurs in the different countries around the world. Those nations that are more prone to it are those that are near or within the Pacific Ring of Fire. Each country has a bureau that records such incidents.

One of the strong earthquakes that recently hit is a 6.8 magnitude quake that struck Turkey. Its epicenter was located in Elazig City.

Based on a report on Inquirer, the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey left at least 18 people dead. Also, there were more than 530 people injured amid the natural calamity.

According to Defense Secretary Hulusi Akar, troops are already on standby for rescue operations. The neighboring towns have also sent their rescue teams to the affected areas to extend help and assistance.

Based on the report, 13 people died in Elazig as to Health Minister Fahrettin Koca. The toll includes two (2) people who suffered from heart attacks during the quake. The other five (5) people who passed away were recorded in Malatya.

According to Environment Minister Murat Kurum, around 30 buildings collapsed in Elazig and Malatya. A total of 553 people were injured by the incidents. Some were even trapped inside the collapsed structures.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) recorded the depth of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey at 6.7 kilometers. Several aftershocks came after the quake with magnitudes 5.4 and 5.1 as the strongest ones.
