Filipino Sorbetes Truck Wins National Awards Through Public Vote in Netherlands
The Filipino sorbetes truck selling mango-flavored ice cream in the Netherlands won a national award through public vote.
Dirty ice cream or popularly known Sorbetes is one of the most popular types of ice cream in the Philippines. Mamang Sorbetero roaming around the streets carrying a small two-cart wheel containing the Pinoy version of ice cream.
In the Netherlands, Luneta Ice Cream’s food truck serves Pinoy sorbetes in a wafer cone or cup, which is very popular for the Filipino people living in the area. Many people including European people love mango-flavored ice cream.
Recently, De Nederlandse HORECA (Hotels, Restaurants, and Café) Prijzen recognized the best businesses in the Netherlands including Luneta Ice Cream. The Pinoy ice cream business won the 2020 Food Truck of the Year award for the Ice Cream category.
The Luneta Ice Cream, which was launched in 2015 won the national award through public voting. Its co-founder Rhea Topacio also expressed her gratitude to the people who supported their products.
“We are overwhelmed. We are touched that there are a lot of people who are supporting us and who love our products. We are a small business but we believe that we are making an impact,” Topacio said.
Dennis Rogacion together with Topacio started the business at home and sold “sorbetes” to their families and friends in Netherlands. Eventually, their small business succeeds and has now 30 selected retailers and restaurants in different countries such as Denmark, Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Lithuania, Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.
