Several animals were left behind as residents evacuated from the danger zone. As the people flee, the once vibrantly colored areas near Taal became a picture of black and white.

Luckily, according to the Department of Health, fruits and vegetables covered with ash from the eruption are still safe to eat. All you need to do is wash it properly.

Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo stated that unlike animals, produce, like fruits and vegetables, cannot ingest the toxins from Taal’s volcanic ashfall.

Yung gulay tsaka prutas na nalagyan ng abo basta hugasan lang ng mahusay ‘yun at linisin, puwede po kainin ‘yun,

Based on an article from ABS-CBN, the initial damage caused by Taal’s eruption to farming was estimated at P577.4 million. This included 2,700 hectares of farmland and nearly 2,000 animals.

However, Domingo emphasized that the DOH urged residents to refrain from eating fish from Taal Lake. This is due to the toxic chemicals from the volcanic activity possibly affecting the fish.

Hangga’t di tayo sigurado, might as well be cautious because we know that toxic substances have been thrown out of the volcano and na-dissolve ‘yan sa tubig…Kapag naingest natin ito, baka malipat ito sa katawan ng tao, itong toxins na ito

Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo

(Until we are certain, we need to be cautious because we know that toxic substances have been thrown out of the volcano that gets dissolved in water. If we were to ingest this, the toxins might get into our body’s system.)
