Angkas App Update Now Requires Passenger’s Weight for Safety Reasons
Popular motorcycle taxi Angkas app new update requires the passengers to input weight before booking a trip because of safety reasons.
Many passengers of the motorcycle ride-hailing firm Angkas were confused at the new information that the company was seeking before they could book a vehicle using the Angkas app. Angkas now requires passengers to provide their weight information and says it may deny rides to “heavy passengers.”
With the updated Angkas motorcycle-ride hailing app, new and current Angkas passengers now need to put on their “weight range” before they can book a ride using the mobile app. According to the company, this is a way to ensure the safety of their riders.
According to the report of Manila Bulletin, the update added several safety measures and improvements including the Weight Safety Check, which requires the user to specify their weight range from Below 150 lbs. (68kg), 150 lbs. to 200 lbs. (68kg to 90kg), and Over 200 lbs. (90kg).
They are also complying with the government’s new motorcycle safety requirements. “Government guidelines on motorcycle safety requires us to ensure small bikers with small bikes are not paired with passengers they may not able to ferry,” said Angkas.
With the exception of pick-up and drop-off locations, the company will match passenger weight to the size of the motorcycle they can carry. Angkas explains: “We don’t judge, we just want to ensure the safety of both you and our bikers.”
In addition to inputting weight, Angkas also warned about other safety guidelines for their passengers. They do not encourage pregnant passengers to ride motorcycles.
They also remind commuters not to ride a motorcycle wearing slippers and not to use a cellphone while they are riding. Obedience is also for their own safety.
