Just hours before the annual Traslacion of the Black Nazarene began, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno inspected the Plaza Miranda in front of Quiapo Church to remind vendors that it was prohibited to sell in that area.

Mayor Isko had previously declared that the entire Quiapo is a “zero vendor area” from January 8 to 9 for better procession flow. It is expected that up to six million devotees from across the country will attend the Feast of Black Nazarene.

Despite the mayor’s request, many vendors still put their merchandise in hopes of making a big profit because of the number of devotees participating in Traslacion. However, they were still apprehended by the City Hall’s staff because it’s an order from Yorme.

Some vendors are still complaining that they have been apprehended by city hall staff, but the mayor, the city government announced that they are prohibited to sell in Quiapo for two days.

“Humingi na kami sa inyo ng pasensya na pagbigyan n’yo naman ang mga taumbayan na magamit ang buong kalye. Ano ba naman ‘yung dalawang araw? Wala naman akong ibang hiningi, in fact, after this balik na kayo,” Yorme explained to a vendor who was complaining.

One of the vendors who laid out the merchandise was an old lady who sells Suman and kakanin. He said he would lose income if she couldn’t sell.

In order to get the old lady home, Mayor Isko sold his goods worth up to five thousand pesos. “Sa limang libo kumita ka na? Hindi ka na lugi? P’wede nang magpahinga? O, manos na tayo,” said Mayor while giving the money to the elderly.

Before that, a young vendor also received help from Mayor Isko. The young vendor selling Sampaguita in Quiapo received three thousand pesos and sold his Sampaguita.
