Typhoon Ursula Death Toll At 47, Damages At ₱1 Billion

TYPHOON URSULA – Disaster officials said that holiday typhoon Ursula left with 47 fatalities and and agri damages worth about ₱1 billion.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the typhoon, which brought Visayas with fierce winds and heavy rains also left with nine missing and about 140 injured.

According to ABS-CBN, the highest number of fatalities is Western Visayas, with about 26 people dead. This is followed up by Eastern Visayas with 13 fatalities, Mimaropa with 7, and Central Visayas with 1.

NDRRMC spokespoerson Mark Timbal said that the cause of death for most victims were due to drowning, while others werer struck by felled trees or even got electrocuted.

Nearly half a million families were affected by Ursula. Among those were 26,705 families who still remain in 635 evacuation centers nationwide.

As per the report, Ursula also damaged about ₱1 billion worth of agricultural properties in Mimaropa, Bicol, and Visayas. It also damaged about 372 schools in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas, as stated by the Department of Education (DepEd).

State of calamity was declared in several areas in Leyte, Aklan, Eastern Samar and Oriental Mindoro. This is in order for cal governments to access emergency funds to help those who settled in evacuation centers over the holidays.
