PAGASA Releases List Of Tropical Cyclone Names For 2020

Here is the list of Tropical Cyclone names for 2020 as released by PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the names of tropical cyclones for 2020.

It has been automatic for the weather bureau to release the names of the typhoons that could possibly enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The names follow the English alphabet, from A to Z.

Based on the report from ABS-CBN, the bureau has 4 sets of typhoon names in rotation. Each set has 10 reserved names in case the typhoon that will enter PAR is more than 25. However, on a regular basis, the country experiences 20 typhoons every year.

In previous years, the names of cyclones were based on the names of women ending with “ing”. However, the naming of typhoons changed as PAGASA also included the names of men.

Throughout the years, the weather bureau crashed out in their list the names of typhoons that brought intense destruction to the country. The recent typhoon that entered the PAR that destroyed lives and properties is Tisoy with international name Kammuri. This entered the country from November 24 to December 6, 2019.

Just before the Philippines celebrated Christmas, another typhoon entered, Ursula. A recent report stated that the said typhoon already caused the death of 28 people. Due to this, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) urged the provincial government of Cebu to put the province under the state of calamity.
