UMak Official Reveals Truth Regarding Sen. Pacquiao’s Degree
UMak OFFICAL REVEALS TRUTH – An official of the University of Makati (UMak) revealed the truth regarding accusations that their school is a “diploma mill”.
Recently, fighting Senator, Manny Pacquiao finally got his degree in Political Science specializing in local government administration. Pacquiao then planned to go to Harvard to finish his Master’s degree.
However, there are still critics that said the Senator didn’t earn his degree fairly. These accusations were then defended by an official in UMak.
According to UMak’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Elyxzur Ramos, the Senator attended his classes and submitted all the requirements. He added that if people still have doubts, they could come and check his records at the University.
In addition to this, he also dismissed the reports that Pacquiao enrolled in September. He explained that the Senator first came to UMak as a student in August 2018.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Ramos said that Pacquiao did not get his degree through the Expanded Tertiary Education and Accreditation Program (Eteeap). This is an alternative education program by CHED.
Rather, the Senator was enrolled in the University’s equivalency program for professionals patterned after Eteeap. This was also in collaboration with the Philippine Councilors League-Legislative Academy.
Those enrolled in the program are awarded the appropriate college degree by recognizing the accredits, equivalencies, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values gained from relevant work.
With his new degree, Netizens reacted positively to Pacquiao’s milestone. However, there are still those who question how he got to study with his tight schedule as a boxer and Senator.
Ramos explained that they were hesitant to allow Pacquiao to enroll because they doubted if he could attend classes. But, the Senator gave his commitment and delivered.
Pacquiao had to finish 10 modules for a different cluster of subjects. Ramos then emphasized that a student usually took a month to finish each module.
However, Pacquiao managed to finish all 10 modules in 16 months, attributing to his tight and busy schedule. Ramos added that the program is rigorous and not for everyone. He recalled that Pacquiao almost failed after he missed an important class.
