Davao del Sur Hit by Earthquake with 5.3 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.3 magnitude quake in Davao del Sur today, December 18, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Davao del Sur. At 04:18 am today, December 18, 2019, Padada was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3. Intensities were recorded of the said quake.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Davao del Sur was located at 06.42°North, 125.48°East – 028 km South 30° East of Padada. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 009 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated that there are no damages but there may be an aftershock from the quake. The following intensities were recorded:
- Intensity V – Digos City
- Intensity IV – General Santos City
