Phivolcs Warns Residents To Expect More Aftershocks Following Massive Davao Del Sur Quake

EXPECT MORE AFTERSHOCKS – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology (Phivolcs) warned residents of Davao del Sur to expect more aftershocks following the 6.9 magnitude quake.

On Sunday at 2:11 p.m. in the afternoon, a massive 6.9 magnitude earthquake Jolted parts of Mindanao. Because of the damage, the town of Padada had to declare a state of Calamity.

Padada Mayor Pedro Caminero gave the announcement on Monday morning after less than 24 hours of the quake. In addition to this, two deaths have been confirmed.

As recorded by Phivolcs, there were several aftershocks that happened at 2:32 PM, 2:52 PM, 02:58 PM, 3:09 PM, 3:23 PM, 3:33 PM and 3:39 PM.

According to an article by Philstar, as of 9:30 a.m., the National Risk Reduction and Management Council said hundreds of aftershocks were recorded following the quake.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal stated that there were 450 aftershocks recorded so far. Also, Philvocs determined that the epicenter of the quake was in the northwest of Matanao, Davao del Sur.

Along with the aftershocks, Philvocs warned residents of building damage. The quake left houses in Davao del Sur totally damaged. Meanwhile, 315 houses in Hagonoy were partially damaged.

In a previous article, we discovered that there were 13 structures that left 13 government buildings damaged. The NDRRMC recently disclosed that in their early count, about 13 government structures were damaged by the tremors.
