Oriental Mindoro Set To Be Under State Of Calamity, Says Official
ORIENTAL MINDORO – The authorities are set to declare Oriental Mindoro under state of calamity following the ruin of severe tropical storm Tisoy.
According to ABS-CBN News, Vincent Gahol, head of the provincial disaster office, said that the declaration will allow them to tap on emergency funds.
Gahol was disheartened after the ruin the storm brought to the province, which shocked them since they thought that there will be no devastating effects on eastern province of Mindoro Island. This prompts them to declare a state of calamity.
“Nakakalungkot kasi akala po namin kahapon wala kami masyadong pinsala. Kaya lang po nung pumasok po ‘yung mga reports samin kagabi ay kailangan po namin magdeklara ng state of calamity ngayong araw,”
Tisoy took the lives of 2 people in the province. It also cancelled classes, flights and government work.
Based on the report, Occidental Mindoro, on the other hand, was plunged into darkness. According to Governor Eduardo Gadiano, officials lost contact with citizens residing in the town of Sablayan.
The national highway of Oriental Mindoro is still accessible while its provincial roads are yet to be cleared. As for Occidental Mindoro, the trees felled by the storm will be cleared.
The 19K people in the said region and 7.8K people in the other that were exacuated are set to return home on Wednesday.
