Typhoon Tisoy Leaves Legazpi Airport Damaged
LEGAZPI AIRPORT – Due to the powerful winds and intense rain brought by Typhoon Tisoy, the Legazpi Airport was left in ruin according to Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara.
In an interview with DZMM, the governor said that the ceilings gave in the airport gave in. Along with this, the windows were also destroyed.
The walls were ripped apart and the ground was left with pieces of shattered glass spread everywhere. It was apparent that Tisoy hit this area hard and relentlessly.
This was because the province was hit by Tisoy’s eyewall. Weather specialist considers this as the part of the Typhoon that does the most damage.
The Typhoon was bringing with it sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour. Adding to this, it carried gusts of up to 275 kilometers per hour at the time.
In a video posted by ABS-CBN, you could clearly see the immense damage brought by the onslaught of the Typhoon. However, PAGASA said that Tisoy weakened after landfall but is still powerful.
In the interview, the Governor stated that the Typhoon had passed their area and was no present in Sorsogon Province. He added that there were reports of severe damage from netizens in other areas.
Following that, he said that he planned to go to those reported sites to confirm the damage. Afterward, they would assess the situation.
Tisoy was last spotted over the island of Burias in the province of Masbate as of 4 AM. Loriedin Dela Cruz, the bureau’s weather specialist, warned the public not to be at ease since it is still powerful despite slightly weaker.
Following this, the eyewall will also affect Southern Quezon, Romblon, and Marinduque within the next 3 hours.
Bicol Region, Romblon, Marinduque, Mindoro provinces, Calabarzon, Metro Manila, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan will face frequent to continuous heavy to intense rains.
