The man who jumped somehow survived the fall and tides and ended up off the sea of Parola. He was then found and rescued by fishermen from Liloan.

Police reports said that they were made aware of the incident a few minutes after 7:00 p.m. Police Master Sergeant Dennis Singson added that they got reports that the man was saved in Liloan town.

Singson stated that the investigators were still at Parola, Liloan to talk to the bridge jumper. Reports had also described the man to be in his 30s.

In the previous months, police began patrolling both Mandaue-Mactan bridges. This was following several incidents of people jumping off the bridge.

According to an article from Cebu Daily News, the incidents prompted Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan to coordinate with the Mandaue Cebu Bridge Management Board.

Some of the suggestions he gave to the board was the installation of CCTV cameras to improve monitoring. He also endorsed the idea of putting up signages on the bridge containing messages of hope.

Another proposal he had was the installation of phone booths. He explained that if they don’t have a phone with them, at least they would have a way to contact helplines that could perhaps save them.
