The volunteer construction worker then revealed that he and his co-workers had to work for almost 24-hours straight. This was because they needed to finish the venue on time.

Based on reports, Richard Delos Santos, the construction worker was removing a scaffolding at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. This was just hours before the start of the first football match held in the venue.

Because of the rain, he slipped and fell. The fall led to him injuring his head and left a fracture on his skull.

He added that he didn’t notice where he was stepping on because he was exhausted from working straight hours. Adding to this, the rain left the platform slippery.

As per the report, Delos Santos revealed that he was not employed by the contractor of the project. Rather, it was the Department of Public Works and Highways-North Manila that hired him.

Delos Santos said that he and 25 fellow construction workers volunteered to help finish the venue.

Even though the football games had already started on Monday, the Rizal complex still remained unfinished. Touring inside the venue would reveal sloppy paint jobs and other evident lapses in construction.

To make things worse, there wasn’t even a digital scoreboard during the first football match between Malaysia and Myanmar. The scoreboard was only installed on the second game between the Philippine Azkals and Cambodia.
