Tougher Punishment For Hate Comments Petitioned After Goo Hara Death
GOO HARA – After the death of Goo Hara and Sulli, an online petition has been filed which calls for tougher punishment against hate comments.
Korean singer and actress was found dead on November 24. She was 28 years old. Her cryptic last Instagram post was a photo of her in bed with the caption “good night”.
Following the death of the star and another Korean star Sulli, who was a former f(x) member, at the same day, an online petition has been filed on the official website of South Korean president Moon Jae-In.
According to Manila Bulletin, this was a call to make punishments against defamation, hate comments, and the like tougher, elaborating that many people, especially celebrities have been suffering from these said acts.
As of the moment MB’s article was written, there are about 20K signatures in the petition.
According to Korea’s Criminal Act, defamation, which refers to “defaming a fellow person by spreading rumors publicly” shall be punished via imprisonment or imprisonment without prison labor for not more than two years or by a fine not exceeding ₩5 million or 215,000 in Philippine peso
“A person who defames another by publicly alleging false facts shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than five years, suspension of qualifications for not more than ten years, or a fine not exceeding ten million won [₱430,000],”
As per the report, Goo Hara and Sulli were close friends. Goo paid a tribute on October 14 via posting photos of them together, further saying that “Sulli (born Jin-ri) can do what whatever she wants in that world.”
The relative of the now dead Korean star said that she was tired since many difficult things happened continuously.
