The Philippine ambassador to South Korea, Noe Wong highlighted that Filipinos need to secure a visa to enter South Korea. However, Koreans who want to stay in the Philippines for less than 30 days do not.

He also added that the Philippine tourism department might raise the issue with the South Korean government. “It’s just that I saw the, shall we say, the inequality“, Wong added.

However, the government is having trouble due to the increasing number of illegal workers in South Korea. This is one of the issues emphasized by the South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines, Han Dong-Man.

He said that the problem of illegal Filipino workers should be addressed first before the visa requirement could be removed. Han also added that the number of undocumented workers is continuing to increase.

Based on an article from Philstar, Han stated that there are about 15,000 illegal Filipino Workers in South Korea. Adding to this, there are even some that want to stay even after the expiration of their visas.

The primary factor that contributes to this decision could be pointed at the attractive salaries the workers are receiving. Many Filipinos chose to work overseas because of the poor job prospects in the country.
