Proposed P3.8 Billion Budget by Comelec for 2020 Gains Approval of Senate

SENATE – The House of Senate approved the proposed P3.8-billion budget of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the year 2020.

The Commission on Elections or more commonly known as Comelec is the body that facilitates the elections held in the Philippines. For the national election, it is held every six (6) years.

With regards to the barangay elections, recently, there were certain proposed changes. A bill seeking for the postponement of the baranggay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections from 2020 to 2022 was filed. It gained the approval of the Congress.

In line with the upcoming elections, recently, the Senate has given its side on the proposed budget of the Comelec worth Php 3.8 billion. The legislative body approved the said proposal based on a report on ABS-CBN News.

According to the report, the proposed budget for 2020 is P5.774 billion lower compared to the budget earlier proposed by the election body. Previously, they were seeking for Php 9.8 billion budget.

Supposedly, the next barangay and SK elections will be on May 11,2020 if it won’t be changed in the pursuit of giving incumbent officials the chance to implement their programs. The said programs may have been affected by the delays in the budget.
