Senator Drilon Questions P50-Million ‘Kaldero’ for SEA Games 2019
SEA GAMES 2019 – Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon questioned the P50-million ‘Kaldero’ for the upcoming SEA Games.
On Monday (November 18, 2019), Franklin Drilon questioned the expensive cost for the design and construction of the stadium cauldron worth P50 million for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019.
The oversized kaldero will be used for the torch lighting ceremony on the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. The giant cauldron has a width of 3 meters and a height of 50 meters. The budget is divided into P32 million for the construction, ₱13.4 million for the foundation, and ₱4.4 million for the design.
The politician distressed that P50 million budget for giant cauldron could be used to build 50 classrooms. The oversized stadium kaldero will be only used once during the 30th SEA Games, according to Drilon.
“Is that reasonable? Is that a correct prioritization? Each classroom will cost P1 million and just for the kaldero, which should be used only once, we will spend P50 million,” Drilon said.
However, Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara explained that the oversized cauldron was meant to display the Filipino’s creativity. Angara sponsored the budget for project construction.
