Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Rocks Eastern Samar, Magnitude 4.1 Tremor Hits Sultan Kudarat
BREAKING NEWS – A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the town of Guiuan in the province of Eastern Samar.
On Friday afternoon (November 8, 2019), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the province of Eastern Samar at 01:31 pm.
Phivolcs said that the quake has been located at 10.74°N, 125.66°E – 033 km S 12° W of Guiuan in Eastern Samar. The strong tremor is tectonic in origin and has a depth of focus of 003 kilometers.
Intensity IV was felt in Borongan City; Intensity III in Palo, Leyte and San Francisco, and Southern Leyte; Intensity II in Surigao City; and Intensity I in Ormoc City; Gingoog City.
The state seismology agency said that there is no damage has been recorded but warned the public to take precautionary measures due to expected aftershocks.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Columbio, Sultan Kudarat at 1:38 pm also on Friday afternoon. It was located at 06.70°N, 125.05°E – 016 km S 45° E of Columbio.
The Sultan Kudarat quake is tectonic in origin and has a depth of 015 kilometers. No damage or aftershocks are expected.
