According to GMA News, a Spanish CGI movie entitled “Elcano y Magallanes, La Primera Vuelta al Mundo” (Translates to Elcano and Magellan, The First Voyage Around The World).

It is an adaptation to the historical voyage of the said Portugese explorer, who is the protagonist of the movie, along with the man who completed the voyage named Juan Sebastian Elcano.

This is the synopsis of the movie:

“One of the most complete adventures ever told. A voyage to the unknown that started with Magellan in command and was concluded by Juan Sebastián Elcano. Storms, hunger, hostile tribes… Five ships sailed off from Seville. Three years later, only one of them managed to return, bringing their adventure full circle and finally proving that planet Earth is round.”

The release of the movie is set on 2019, in order to coincide with the 500th anniversary of the start of the first ever circumnavigation.

Dibulitoon Studio, the Spain-based producer of the film, described it as “an audiovisual producer specializing in children and youth animation.”

However, many Filipino netizens are not happy of the film, pointing out that the producer’s version of the tale shows inaccurate depictions of history, especially in the Philippines.

Based on the report, the netizens pointed out that one of his ship was welcomed by the tribe upon reaching the island. Elcano was seen having a princess for a love interest.

Netizens were also disappointed when the teaser sees Lapu-Lapu, the first ever Filipino hero, as a villain. Lapu-Lapu waged a war against the Spaniards, which is soon to be known as the Battle of Mactan, where the Portugese explorer met his demise.
