Yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte officially appointed Vice President Leni Robredo as co-chairperson of ICAD. However, Robredo’s spokesman, Barry Gutierrez said the position has no power.

In lieu of this, the Presidential Spokesperson, Salvador Panelo gave a rebuttal to Gutierrez’s statement. He threw shade at Robredo’s spokesman and said he needs to brush up his law.

In a statement, Panelo said that the President has exclusive control over all offices and officials in the executive branch. He added that the president has the authority to create positions and items.

Based on a report from Inquirer, Panelo said that Robredo’s camp has been dodging and giving all sorts of excuses and demands.

The Presidential Spokesperson told Robredo’s camp to “sleep over it”. He added that meaningful public service carries with it a huge burden.

Afterward, he stated that they do not believe that the Vice President is incapable of stepping up to the challenge. Then, he quipped Robredo, saying “unless of course, she proves us wrong by declining the appointment“.
