President Duterte Gives Vice President Robredo A Leading Role In The War Against Drugs
DUTERTE – Recently, Vice President Leni Robredo has criticized President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug campaign as being ineffective.
This led to the President pushing Robredo to have a go at trying to solve the drug problem by leading the campaign. And as of today, Duterte gave that role to Vice President Robredo.
In a letter dated October 31, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea told Robredo that she was appointed as co-chairperson of the Interagency Committee on Anti-illegal Drugs or ICAD.
ICAD was established on March 6, 2017, through Executive Order No. 15. Under the EO, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) spearheads the committee with 20 govt. agencies included.
The announcement of Robredo’s appointment happened just days after Duterte offered her to be his drug czar. The President offered Robredo “full powers” to run his administration’s war on drugs.
Based on a report from Inquirer, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said even though Robredo was a co-chair, her post would be considered a Cabinet rank.
Members of the political opposition have been issuing demands relative to the President’s offer to the Vice President to head the government’s campaign against illegal drugsSalvador Panelo
The detractors of the President were demanding that VP Leni would be given a post with the drug enforcement agencies. With this, the President has officially directed the full assistance and cooperation of ICAD.
With this development, Panelo hopes that critics of Duterte would see the sincerity of the President’s offer. He added that regardless of who’s in charge of the campaign, what Duterte wants is the welfare of the Filipino people.
