Cotabato Hit by Earthquake with 4.5 Magnitude Today
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.5 magnitude quake in Cotabato, October 23, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, another quake has hit a part of Cotabato. At 02:45 am today, October 23, 2019, Tulunan was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Cotabato was located at 06.78°North, 125.01°East – 022 km South 69° East of Tulunan. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 007 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages and as well as aftershocks are not expected from the quake. The said quake is an aftershock of the October 16 quake. The following intensity was reportedly felt of the recent quake:
