Dance Group Takes Shots At Duterte Administration With Satirical Performance
DANCE GROUP – A dance group called Skimmers performed a satirical take on the current events happening within the Philippines.
The theme of their performance seemed to be a news report. Each of their chants highlighting previous headlines of critical issues faced by the country.
Every member of the ensemble had matching uniforms and each member held a microphone, mimicking news reporters. This is clearly emphasized as they have “Press” printed on the back of their outfits.
The first issue that they tackled was about the education sector. They addressed the issue of the Filipino subject being removed from college.
Wittingly, they transitioned this towards the issue that the Philippines is giving biased favors towards China. The group then quipped, “TEH! Ano ibulos niyo? Mandarin!?” (So what are you going to replace it with? Mandarin?)
“Ni Hao ma sakupon kita china, ustomoyon?!“, they chanted. They also incorporated the popular children’s rhyme “Johnny, Johnny, Yes Papa” as they joked about the country close to being a province of China.
“Digong, Digong – yes China? Scarborough Shoal? Yes, China. Spratly Island? Yes, China“, they exclaimed. They also took note of how President Duterte lambast those critical of his decisions.
As seen in the video, the group then focused on the approach of the Duterte administration when it came to health care. They highlighted how Duterte focuses more on the drug rather than the health of the citizens.
“Kung sa lukpanay may kwarta. Pero ang sakit sang kalawasan ta, ginaitsapwera?!” (When it comes to shootings, there’s a budget, but our health gets forgotten).
