Former Lakers Player Rick Fox Files Case Against Esports Partners
RICK FOX – Did you know that the three-time NBA champion Rick Fox, owned an Esports franchise?
Fox has co-founded an esports franchise called “Echo Fox” back in 2015. This organization was first introduced in League of Legends after he bought the spot of the former LCS team, Gravity Gaming.
Recently, Fox has filed a suit accusing his esports business partners of multiple instances of fraud. In his suit, he is seeking damages worth over $10 million.
According to a report from NBC, the suit was filed on Monday. It stated that Echo Fox’s partner Amit Raizada pocketed investor funds in a complex scheme.
As per the report, this led to the company being on the brink of bankruptcy. It also included detailed racist messages written by Raizada that caused a major esports league to terminate their franchise slot.
Raizada and other partners have moved Fox as a general partner Oct. 21. According to Raizada’s attorney, the lawsuit is a transparent attempt to divert the attention from the train wreck Rick Fox left behind.
He also added that the lawsuit is full of categorically false allegations about Raizada and other partners. However, the details of Raizada’s written and verbal abuse went public.
This sprung an investigation by Riot Games, publisher of one of the most popular e-sport, League of Legends. Riot Games ordered Echo Fox to part with Raizada or sell its League of Legends franchise slot within 60 days.
Raizada then refused to step down. This led to Riot games terminating Echo Fox’s spot in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) back in August.
In a statement, Fox said that Raizada is a despicable man. He added that Raizada had threatened his family and his friend.
“Most people are afraid to deal with that. Most people are afraid to speak up. My hope is that by shining a light on this situation with myself, others will not fall prey to his actions and his deception.”, Fox said.
Even with this entire mess at play, Rick Fox said that his love for esports has not been tainted whatsoever. He added that after this issue is cleaned up, he would continue on his esports journey.
